Apple will create its own original video content in Netflix style
After many rumors and speculations, finally, the news has been confirmed. Apple will create its own original video content to offer on TV to the letter, in the purest style Netflix. The first contents will be available in just a few months.
The company unveiled this week that will offer its first two programs on video through Apple Music, its subscription music streaming service. They will be programs in television format and will be available in the spring of this year.
And apparently it’s just the beginning. Apple is already preparing other original content that will see the light next year. The company’s goal is to turn Apple Music into a cultural platform, according to Jimmy Iovine, Director of Service.
“There are a lot of projects. We’re on that. This is what Apple Music is going to be, “Iovine said in an interview. “Apple Music will have video and stuff I can not talk about. Let’s be ambitious about this. ”
However, according to Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of software and services, during an interview at the Code Media technology conference in Southern California, the company is unwilling to “buy a bunch of programs.”
“We’re trying to do unique and cultural things,” Cue added.
The first Apple programs
The Cupertino company has already unveiled what will be their first two programs:
1. Carpool Karaoke
This is a TV show based on the James Corden sketch on “The Late Late Show” on CBS, in which a famous man climbs a car with Corden and sings some songs during the journey. In addition, in the program of Apple, the famous will surprise certain people in the street or shops.
Apple introduced the program trailer at the Grammy Awards and featured, among others, such as Will Smith, Alicia Keys or Metallica.
2. Planet of the Apps
Planet of the Apps will be a reality in which diverse iPhone application developers will compete to create the next great application.
The developers will have 60 seconds to present their idea; Afterwards, they will receive advice from some celebrities like Will.i.am or Gwyneth Paltrow to develop it; And finally, they should try to convince venture capital investment fund Lightspeed Venture Partners to invest in their project.
Apparently Apple’s intentions are to use the original video to help distinguish its Apple Music service, in the style of MTV in its heyday.
Apple Music began its journey in June of 2015. Since then it has attracted to more than 20 million subscribers and is one of the main competitors of Spotify.
At the moment, according to Cue, the company is focusing on solving two problems:
How to make it easier for users to discover the content that is already available.
And how to facilitate innovation for video creators.
However, Apple has insisted that it does not enter into its short-term plans to directly challenge video streaming giants, such as Netflix or Amazon, who increasingly create more original, high-quality content to capture new subscribers and retain those who they already have.
Apple will remain primarily a smartphone company.
“We are happy doing the things we do today,” Cue said. “Where it’s headed, we do not know.”
