Updated version of GLA 2014 is Mercedes-Benz GLA 2017
The Mercedes-Benz GLA 2017 is an update of the GLA 2014 (test of the Mercedes-Benz GLA 2014). The changes are small and affect the design and equipment, but not the range of engines remains unchanged (in other European countries there will be a new version of gasoline of 184 hp with four-wheel drive called GLA 220 4MATIC ).
It is for sale from 31 050 euros with a gasoline engine of 122 hp (GLA 180). It is a price that places it in an intermediate point in front of two of its main rivals, the Audi Q3 1.4 TFSI CoD 150 CV (30 990 €) and the BMW X1 sDrive 18i 136 CV (32 100 €); Comparative tab The most affordable version with Diesel engine (GLA 200 d 136 hp) costs 33 650 euros, a price higher than that of an Audi Q3 2.0 TDi 150 hp or a BMW X1 sDrive 18d 150 hp, but lower than that of a Land Rover Ranger Rover Evoque 5p 2.0 eD4 150 hp (comparative sheet).
On the outside, they change the grille, the bumpers and the designs of some tires. There is also a new color for the body called “canyon beige” and optional Xenon headlights are no longer available in favor of a few (short and long) LEDs. In the words of Mercedes-Benz, these new headlights consume 60% less energy than xenon. The pilots are also led and the brake and flashing light have three different intensities depending on the brightness of the exterior.
The design of the diffuser and rear spoiler are different and thanks to them the coefficient of aerodynamics (Cx) drops from 0.29 to 0.28. The changes in the interior consist of new seat upholstery and new decorative trim for the dashboard and doors. They also change the needles in the instrument cluster and the design of some buttons.
Among the new features are cameras that can give a zenith and peripheral vision of the vehicle and access and hands-free start. With this last element the boot lid has electric drive and can be opened by passing the foot under the rear bumper.
The engines available for the GLA 2017 are the same as for the GLA 2014. There are four versions with a gasoline engine – 122 hp GLA 180, 156 hp GLA 200, 211 hp 4MATIC GLA 250 and AMG GLA 45 4MATIC 381 CV-; While there are two with one Diesel: GLA 200 d and GLA 220 d, with 136 and 177 hp respectively. Mercedes-Benz does not cite improvements in the consumption or performance of any version.
The GLA 180, GLA 200 and GLA 200 d versions have a six-speed manual transmission as standard. For these versions you can, in option, an automatic one of seven, that is of series in the rest. The GLA 250 4MATIC and the AMG GLA 45 4MATIC always have all-wheel drive. This type of traction is an option for the GLA 220 d. The others are always front-wheel drive.
The changes in the design of the bumpers and the spoiler have made the aerodynamic coefficient of the AMG GLA 45 4MATIC lower from 0.34 to 0.33. In addition, Mercedes-Benz has shortened the developments of the gearbox. Despite this, the benefits and consumption do not change. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds and the average approved consumption is 7.4 l / 100 km. In some countries, not in Spain, this version may be ordered with a decorative package called “Yellow Night Edition”.
As in the GLA 2014, there are three types of suspension: the standard, a sport that reduces the height of the body 15 millimeters and another one called “off-road” that raises the height 30 mm with respect to the standard. The length of the 2017 GLA is 7 millimeters larger than that of the 2014 GLA (measuring 4.42 meters in length), but the width and height do not change (1.80 and 1.49 m respectively).
